I do admit the Vette has an image issue that continues to improve with each new version, but that image is perpetrated by the same people who try to justify their own shortcomings and the shortcomings of their car by knocking on subjective issues with the Vette.

I don't care about image; if I did I would drive an AMG or Porsche most likely. I care about having a FUN sports car to drive on evenings/weekends/track days and the Vette fills that need very nicely. The Yukon is my recliner/living room to loaf to/from work in.

The OP article wants to turn the Vette into something it isn't. It's never been about being a 911, //M, Audi S version, etc. It's about being a Vette which trades off a bit of refinement and interior quality for additional performance. Tens of thousands of people every year pony up their $40k+ to get one.

Can someone find the current sales figures for sports cars? I can say without a doubt that most auto manufacturers would take the Corvette brand if it was offered to them because it's a cash cow for GM and the car has a formula that has worked for over 50 years. How many other models/marques can claim the same? Not many.

For those of you that don't like the Vette, fine. I don't really care. Buy whatever floats your boat. I wouldn't want ricers and other Kraut/JDM leghumpers tarnishing the "image" further anyway.

I guess the bottom line is that I am from a generation where the Corvette is not the holy grail of sports cars as it was for generations past
That is what most of the guys here are saying too. We're not taking away its performance/bang for buck attributes. Some are still taking it that way.

I wonder why the author debases the Corvette's audience and then he writes about the G-car and M3? Their images are shit, too. I wouldn't want to be associated with their stereotypical audience either.

I think the only reason he doesn't think its cool is because the rest of Edmunds.com and its editors/test drivers all think other cars are cool. he likes the vette, but it doesn't "appeal" to others so therefore he must not like it

And I wouldnt even mention them in the same sentence as a Corvette. Id rather have a used C5 than a new M3.

I see that back when Corvette was pretty much the only real sports car you had to choose from, I could see the loyalty there.. like some kinda nostalgia for the older guys.

Todays market is much more competitive and more mfgrs are giving us what we want, so naturally we have more to choose from and those who do not give us what we want, we dont buy their cars. Plain and simple.

I doubt there is a single person anywhere who is cross shopping these cars.
If you're looking for a rwd car with power and you don't care how many doors or seats it has, you'll end up looking at the G35, Corvette and a bunch of others. It happens, I did it this summer.
