Plant Utilization Statistics
I think the information is in the latest Autoweek, but I don't have it with me. If I remember right these are 2004 stats. The percentages are the portion of rated capacity being used.
Domestics = roughly low to mid 80s with Chrysler being the highest at bout 85
Honda = mid 80s - down from 2003
Toyota = 107 - someone is working overtime
If Ford and GM's production was right sized to what they could sell at something close to MSRP, they would probably be down in the 70s. Shows you how hard it is close plants. If bankruptcy would allow GM and Ford to escape from some of the agreements regarding plant closings, etc., it might be the way to go. I'm afraid that by the time the unions are ready to agree to a sensible plan, it might be too late.
