LOL!
Get the GS if you:
- want a roof that's removable by design
- want an automatic transmission
- want to save a bunch of money ($15-20K? just a guess)
- prefer the styling details of the GS
- better engine longevity?
I'd prefer a Z06 myself, but if it came down to buying new vs. new, I'd probably have a hard time parting w/ the extra dollars for the Z06. As far as I'm concerned, Chevy just made the decision process that much harder by creating another great alternative to the existing lineup.

The Z06 speaks to my heart with the "Z06"ness of it , but my head says the GS is the sweet spot in the corvette lineup.

Thanks guys!!! I plan to enjoy but also take very good care of the car. This is like a dream come true for me.
As far as the GS vs the Z06 thing, it's a personal choice as both cars are awesome machines. For me I wanted the Z06 for the performance and uniqueness. The GS offers a lot of car for the money plus you get options like the removable top, convertible, and auto trans which you can't get on the Z. I saw a GS at my dealer, it was Jetstream Blue with the comp grey wheels and red/black interior. It also had the heritage package and had red Grand Sport stripes on the fender. Very sharp car!!!

So you like everything a GS has, but feel the need to get a Z06 for your ego even though its more car than you will ever use?
Don't get me wrong though, realistically I'd buy the GS simply because the engine parts will probably be more available i.e. cheaper than the z06, so trust me I get it. Like DT also said, you also get the removable top which is also a plus. And with a few quick mods like how Quikag has on his, if I ever came across a Z06 it'd be a driver's race (which I'll probably lose anyway, lol).
But again, it's just like the GSR vs. the type r, or if they made a special gsr vs. a type r, the type r will still be the one that'll make you go hmm. Point is, especialy with pricing being so similar, you'll always wonder if you shoulda got that one. But it's definitely not like being in a 2000 AP1 and seeing a CR, I just think the new car smell must be nice. As for the being in a Z06 comparing up to a ZR1, to be its on another league altogether and personally not a fan of its look.
So please don't get me wrong, I often wonder what was the point of the z06 with the z51 being great and the zr1 being the king of the hill, I guess I just fell in love wih teh curves .

sweet car, congrats. if you're considering performance driving events, definitely swap out the good yrs for michelin PS2's - far better tire that chevy should have installed oem.
