Default This is one sick GTR Skyline

I dug this site up a few years ago and followed it fairly closely. It hasn't been updated in a while, but this guy did some crazy things with that R33 Skyline, down under. I wonder what he does for a living, seems like he has unlimited cash flow.

Without picking a fanboi war, if you modify these cars are they reliable?

Can they even beat supercars around tracks?

I guess it really depends on a ton of factors. Apparently, a Skyline's drivetrain is overbuilt, like a lot of FI powerplants. I don't know that it is overbuilt to the same degree as a 03-04 Cobra's, but the technology/experience for building these Nissan engines has been around for a number of years. You could mod several cars to be superior in some ways to cars costing 3-5 times as much, so that doesn't really mean much. A heavily modded Skyline would be as reliable as the car builder made it. It would have no inherent reliability advantage once you start pushing two or three times the stock power through it. They're not magic, despite the hype. A Skyline is too heavy to be a track star, no matter how much power it makes, and no matter how good the drivetrain. You could always mod a Vette to beat it in any performance category, for example (except maybe hillclimbing in the rain ).

I don't know if all of them could run with supercars, but THAT one sure seems like it could! 1350bhp and 2900lbs sounds good to me. Couple that with a notoriously tenacious AWD system, and you've got a real monster on your hands.

It does seem like this guy has unlimited funds. He's left virtually no area of the car untouched with custom work. I suppose if you're going to do it, and want the best, there's only one way! Fanboi or not, that car is really impressive.

I agree. I am not necessarily a Skyline fan, but that one is sick.

If you are talking about on a race track and not just short straight line bursts any car with 1000HP and a tiny engine is going to have problems. Getting rid of that much heat with a tiny heat sink is tough. I would expect a viper engine putting out that much HP would have a much better chance running for 20-30 minutes straight in race-track conditions then a relatively tiny skyline engine. I am sure at 400-600HP it could made to be very reliable even on a race track.

He makes games for Sony.

He flys all over the world doing stuff and doesn't get muych time to spend on the car. He has some Champ car driver who peddles it for him down here.

He was sending it over to Europe to do the rounds.

He had a lot of problems with gearboxes.
