oh my....look at the new CRV again...whoa

Judging from my brief stint at the Honda dealer this weekend, I would say they should have a strong four cylinder standard, drop in the 3.5 from the Pilot as an option, and then kill off the Pilot. They are just taking up space at the dealer and don't really seem to be strong sellers.
But I never liked em in the first place so I could be biased.

I really like the new CRV. I thought about buying a CRV instead of a Civic living in the northeast but the current CRV just doesn't look good at all comparing to other SUV. If this CRV comes out this year 2006, I would have a hard time choosing between it and a 2006 Civic.

The Pilot is pretty much of the best-selling medium-sized SUV on the market. To date this year, they've sold 90,236 of them (up 15.6% compared to last year).
I swear I never notice these. Maybe it is because they are so bland looking. I see a Saturn Vue maybe 20 times a day but never notice a Pilot.
Sharp drop for Explorers must be slightly disconcerting to Ford.

By comparison, Toyota has sold 64,212 4Runners (up 5.2%) and 73,356 Highlanders (down 12.8%). Nissan has sold 43,674 Pathfinders (down 5.2%) and 36,981 Xterras (down 8.7%).
Ford sold 111,493 Explorers so far this year (down 33.2%!!!) so that is the best selling medium SUV on the market. The Pilot is second and growing, despite a complete redesign of the Explorer this year. It's a bit unfair since Honda only has one medium SUV (compared to Toyota and Nissan with arguably two each, which end up splitting sales), but the Pilot is still selling strong. Incentives/deals are huge on them right now, though - up to $6K off sticker.
As far as medium SUVs go, the Pilot is about as good as it gets. Drives well (comparatively, that is), not too bad gas mileage (especially in 2WD with VCM), very roomy, very reliable, and pretty cheap (I saw a guy with an offer for $21.5K for a base model on www.vtec.net yesterday). Only let-down is towing capability - some of the others (the Explorer especially) have a higher towing capacity.
On one thing I do agree, though - they should offer a V6 in the CR-V as an option. The 4-cyl is decently peppy but the V6 (I'd say go with the 3.0L from the Accord - plenty powerful as it sits, with a bit of retuning for more torque and less peak hp) would really spice it up for a few grand more.

Bummer for Ford on the Explorers, especially considering how heavily they're being discounted. At least the Fusion is doing well and I think the new Edge will help them as well. I figure that if I like a Ford (and I typically don't, but those two vehicles are actually ones that I would consider), surely the general public will like them.

Those sales are impressive. My mother has a Pilot with Nav. Awesome Vehicle. Very nimble too compared to an Explorer.
