Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but I would love to see H and T re-enter the $30k sports coupe market again in a couple of years. It's hard to imagine Hyundai and Nissan being the only options to choose from...

To clarify:
RSX was pulled out because Honda wanted to make the acura name more upscale, the rsx just couldn't compete on the curb with the g35, 3 series, CLK, etc. Honda didn't kill it altogether, they brought out the SI which is basically a down classed RSX (not downgraded, just doesn't have the acura emblem with leather). The prelude was killed off because Honda at the time had the integras, SIs, and teh S2000, what was the point of the prelude? Plus they had the RSX in the works.
Toyota killed off the celica for one main reason: the GTS started at 21345, by the time you add in sunroof, power everything, cd player, etc, you were in teh 25K+ range which the RSX absolutely demolished it in pricing and performance. If toyota continued with that formula in the wake of the WRX, MS3, current SI, Cobalt SS, Mini Cooper S, it'd be dead in the water. But Toyota went back and made the tC which did, and is doing, exceptionally well and offered a supercharger kit which they will warranty. The 240sx was killed off because, cmon, 155hp? If the sr20det swap was legal in CA, you'd see a lot more of them around.
I think the Hyundai can do well, the rwd won't be a disadvantage cosnidering how many people new/used 3 series coupes and G35s, and the back seats of an accord coupe, although relatively spacious, isn't a replacement for a sedan, and honda sells a decent amount of those too. I think the people Hyunda is after is the folk who want to buy the 3 series or G37 but are settling for the accord and altima coupes or solara. With this car, Hyundai is trying to gain some street cred, a lot of folks who don't know cars usually ask their car enthusiast friends for their opinions, this car will put Hyundai on the radar.

True, the Genesis coupe is RWD, and that means a lot to a lot of enthuiasts, but to the general public as a whole it's at best a push (they don't know or care about the difference) and at worse a detriment (RWD's crappy reputation in snow/ice/rain.)

RSX was pulled out because only an idiot would buy one, when for less money you could get more content in the newer Civic. An Acura with no Navi and a Civic with Navi. Like many people with their mortgages, Acura got upside down with the RSX...
