NSX news...well......read on

You guys are totally missing my point, which is not that the Elise is a good daily driver, but rather that there's no reason an NSX should cost double what an Elise costs. The most frequently cited reason for the NSX's expense is its aluminum-intensive construction, which is specifically why I cited the Elise as a counter-example -- it's an aluminum car as well, but it's $45k cheaper than an NSX.
Adding refinement and a bit more room to an Elise wouldn't cost $45k. $10k, maybe.

don't forget the NSX is made with 1980s production techniques.
a similar car if designed with modern techniques and made in a modern way could cost way less.
for example, the DC5 RSX is said to cost a good deal less to make than the DC2 Integra.

Maybe so, but the price prolly wont be based on teh engine alone. If i remember, one of the reasons the NSX was expensive is because of the aluminum frame. Al frames are now common and cheaper to produce.
The next NSX, if it becomes a V10 4500cc mid engine sports car, will be expensive if Honda plans on making a real impact.

Can't agree with that. I generally disagree with him, but steve c has a point when he says that there's nothing on the NSX's spec sheet that comes remotely close to justifying its $90k price. Lotus, a small boutique manufacturer that makes its cars in expensive England, still manages to bring the all-aluminum Elise over here for a bit over $40k. Scoff at the power difference between the two if you'd like, but the Elise is very comparable to the current NSX performance-wise.

The NSX was innovative, for its time that is. Its just that Honda had been trying to sell it as an expensive car to make it seem like it was really worth it - until you compare it with other cars.
There is no doubt that the next one will be made very similarly to the Carrera GT spec if Honda ever hope to keep up. I think Honda is predicting that they will have something by 2008.

Honda has announced that the new NSX is 3-4 years out and will have an F1 inspired V10.
No joke - check www.vtec.net .
I have a feeling it'll be a world beater. Can we say 500 hp and 350-400 ft-lbs of torque?
Of course, that's still just in C6 Z06 territory but man, I can't wait to see that engine.

I just made a little spread sheet with a redline around 10k. I based the torque curve on the F20C. If it had a redline of around 10k and peak torque around 9k at around 315 lb/ft you are looking at HP around 610+. That would be a pretty decent engine!

Yeah I mentioned the V10 earlier, except Honda's aiming for 600hp. I don't know how they will achieve that sort of power and not keep the car under 100k.
