comparing a WRX to a 911 is like comparing a 1994 Civic Si (US SPEC) to the 2010 Civic Si. Old tech to new tech with new safety regulations. Yeah, you can make the old Civic as fast as the new around a AutoX or race track, but you'd need to dump a lot of money into it (especially for road course) and it will never be as nice for dual duty.

Most people that consider Porsches don't want to do a bunch of mods to make it as good as ??? whatever higher goal there is. Porsche has always done a great job of selling you something that basically needs nothing.. . It's one reason I really wish I could afford the new 2014 Cayman S. Buy an extra set of track wheels and tires and just drive... I'll toy with my M3 with mods.

Even the CEO admits the Cayman would be faster.

Their CEO says alot of things that aren't necessarily true. He needs to sell cars or lose his job.

Which 997? There have been a TON of 997.1s with the IMS failure, especially the early cars (2005s) but as late as the 2008 cars, since they're all using the same engine with variations of bearing types at the problem area. That's why Porsche settled a class action lawsuit over the issue is because they kept cropping up.

The 2009+ models (997.2) have a new engine (9A1) with direct injection that has apparently solved the IMS issue as I don't believe there have been any reported failures.

After reading C&D's Z51 vs. 991S comparison, I have to wonder if the C7 is going to steal a lot of sales from both the 911 and Cayman/Boxster. I'm a huge Porsche fan, but would need to have way more money than I could ever use to pay the Porsche premium over a C7 Z51. Especially after seeing my first one in person last week - it looked a lot better than in pics to my eyes.

It's actualy even simpler than that. The 9A1 engine design does not have an IMS bearing. A very, very effective solution to avoiding future issues.

Just checked my PCA magazine for details. The class action suit covered all 2005 997s (single row IMS bearing), and possibly some early 2006 models depending on engine number. Anything after that did not make the class action suit.

Yes, but the 997 up to 2008 still has that motor, so it's still just as prone to failure.

The 911 has a visceral feel of it just pulls and pulls at any speed , any gear and while a 997S is a little faster than the WRX, and STI the total package of awe inspiring brakes, great handling , wonderful sound of the flat 6 behind you , and don't forget that steering feel makes you go "Wow" every time and the Cayman S did not even come close to making me say wow .
The Cayman went to Direct Injection in 09 so those are faster . Have not driven one of those yet.

are you seriously comparing Subaru to a Porsche? why don't I compare Scion FRS to Ferrari F12. Oh wait, FRS is much better as it has lower center of gravity, flat 4 boxer, and 2 extra seats!

and as a matter of fact, S2000 does not have a WOW steering feel.
