It was a Camry, if I recall correctly. Either way, point well taken.

Though, I was younger once and had a paid-off '93 Del Sol with less than 50k miles and I bought a new '97 Honda Prelude. Paid that off, and it had less than 40k miles and I sold it for a new '01 C5. Paid that off, and then promptly sold it.

You know, it wasn't the smartest financial decisions I've ever made, but damn I did have fun and met a lot of great people because of my car enthusiast tendencies.
Yeah, but you didn't work at pep-boys and didn't rag on people who choose to not waste money on cars. That's a big difference.

It's not like the 'vette is an expensive car, so what's the problem?

Apparently you missed the many posts where we discussed the fact that while the Vette is not really an expensive car in sportscardom, it's still a relatively expensive car to most people AND it's a flashy car. Most non-car types think the Vette costs a hundred grand and they are totally impractical, blah, blah, blah.

It's perception that is key. My buddy with the new Viper Coupe just got a new job and I HIGHLY recommended that he avoid driving the Viper to work. He agreed, because he did see where it effected jealously and envy from his bosses in his now previous job.

This is real stuff. I'd rather make a lot of money at work, be low key, and come home to a bigger house and cool car than to drive flashy cars to work and compromise my upward mobility because I have jealous a**hole bosses. This is hypothetically speaking because my bosses in my new job are my friends and they could care less what kind of car I have. However, they are pretty low key with rides and I should be the same, so we don't cause discontent with the rest of the people that work there.

oops, yeah I admit I gave up early and skipped to the end of the posts. I guess I've always been lucky with my bosses/coworkers as none of them care or think it's cool and ask for rides. I've thrown the keys to several of them when they ask for a ride in my various cars over the years.

Personally I buy my cars to drive them and as long as you don't appear to a jerk to those you work with I don't see an issue especially when a Pickup or SUV can run you $40K-$100K.

Yeah there'll always be so called "haters" but then there are those folks who are just genuinely envious. It's mainly the women at work who love the car. The guys just tease about it.
