Wow.

BTW -- Have you guys NOT seen all the pictures of CGTs wrapped around trees, in ditches, and up on tow-trucks? I see a new one posted up here almost weeky.

11.50 on a street car is AWESOME.

Wow, impressive to say the least. Now on that 518rwhp, I kinda want to call BS, but damn, that's REALLY underrated. Factor in about 15-16% drive train loss, then that comes out to about 600hp at the crank!!! I don't think GM underrated the Z06 by 100 hp!!!!!

All i know is most Ford GT's are running trap speeds about the same...I know there was that one ringer that turned a 130+, but that is a fluke. I hope you can see this dyno of the GT
http://www.viperalley.com/download.php?Number=530141

Granted the GT is quite a bit porkier then the vette, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Z06 was pushing closer to 550HP.

have you guys read that the SAE has adopted new rating guidelines....and that many manufactureres have already started reporting HP figures based on the new guidelines?

something to do with accessory drives...i read it somewhere last week.

may help to explain things....

Yes, the LS7 was the first motor to be certified under the new rating system. You may be right, that may explain some of it. Going by other motors that have been rerated under the new system they typically have been putting out ~5-8% lower numbers. So using the old system a (now) 505hp rated motor would have been rated at anywhere from 525-545hp. Stretch that out a further 5% for build variances and you're into the 570s. Still seems a little far fetched to me, but I guess it's plausible.

correct.

if so, then the 505HP rating is with all accessory drives connected to the motor.

which we know, saps power....

I see lots of dead people.
Chevy should offer driving courses for cheap with the purchase of this car. The large majority of owners will need it!

Had lunch with a friend last week from Motor Trend Mag. They tested a new Z06 and it went 11.50 @ 127.1 with a full tank of gas. The story will hit the streets in the next issue. He also said it was butally fast, but noisy due to the reduction of sound deadening materials.
So I wasn't crazy when we took my neighbor's C6 z06 for a spin, it was f**kin LOUD!!!

I wonder if the production models will have more sound deadening because while it was a blast to drive, I don't think I could handle that kind of volume all the time.

I was hoping to hear 11.2's but I suppose the tires are the thing.
