Default New Z06 1/4 mile time: 11.50 at 127mph

FYI: It's been widely known that all the next month's issues are going to include the 'first drive' of the new Z06. I cannot wait to read comparos against the Z06 against the F430, Ford GT, Gallardo, etc.

From Corvetteforum:
Had lunch with a friend last week from Motor Trend Mag. They tested a new Z06 and it went 11.50 @ 127.1 with a full tank of gas. The story will hit the streets in the next issue. He also said it was butally fast, but noisy due to the reduction of sound deadening materials.

Thought you all might like to know. That is the official MT Mag time.

Holy smoke.

Steve sports bikes are quicker and less protective. I guess it's faint praise to say it'll be very safe compared to a sports bike.

I'd assume they're no more dangerous than a Ford GT or Carrera GT or a 911 turbo or Viper etc..

Why do you assume b/c this is fast it'll be more deadly than any other fast car? Is it b/c it's cheap? Because the Viper has always been around this price.

Another 8-12 mph in the 1/4 mile or top speed shouldn't be that more deadly than a regular C6 or C5 Z06 that already have sold in the tens of thousands.

Damn... That means with some DRs/Slicks that car will be knocking on 10s stock.

I like the post a little further down on that thread:
Let's just just say we may have put one on the dyno

And maybe we got 518hp at the tires

OG

PS. - Severly Underrated

Just to help you see what I read in Steve's train of thought:

With the higher production numbers and more (relatively) affordable nature of the Vette, the number of deaths in this car will be extremely high. There are many things in C-GTs, F-GTs, Vipers, and 911-Ts that help keep the street safety up. Fewer on the roads and price keeping the owners from pushing the car near its limits for instance.

Also, sport bikes, while being much faster and much more dangerous, you still have a lot of deaths AND a lot less bike riders pushing a bike to its limits. Riding a sport bike is scarry, and while you see a lot of fast driving, I don't see them going full out much at all.

With the performance, availability, and price point, the C6Z06 will cause a lot of deaths. And, BTW, the viper does cause a lot of deaths as well, which is one of the reasons it cost more than almost (if not) any other domestic car to insure. I think you'll see similar insurance rates for the Z06.

i think the key is price point, availability and depreciation (when people start picking up used ones). You will see a lot of inexperienced drivers pushing these cars beyond their capabilities. A 14 s s2000 is quick enough to get into trouble, let alone a sub 12s car.
