I love how GM is planning to kick ass on basically every manufacturer in the world in practically every category. I love it!

At some point the hp doesn't really matter... not too many folks are going to drive 500hp M5's at it's full potential. A 600hp lighter car is probably just a bigger time bomb.... You cannot hook up 600hp very well without some damn wide, sticky tires ........ I have 315 drag radials on my 500hp mustang and it hooks up pretty well......on the stock 275 F1's it would just spin in 1st and 2nd gear..... i can't imagine a CTS coming with drag radials.??? Maybe some Mickey Thompson ET's...

well, what about the HUGE torque differences??
that car will (guessing) have around 520lb/ ft of trque compared to the M5's "meager" 370lb/ft that car will give a totally different ride and I'm almost positive you don't have to wind it all the way out to 9000rpm to get the power, so I'm pretty sure the E55/65 would be a better competitor for the Ultimate Sedan category

I'd go for the M5... It'll be a newer bodystyle BMW and will hold value very well. Besides this I think they look awesome, 500 hp V10 how much more power do you want... Couldn't go wrong with a new M5.

I can't see BMW charging $100K for the new M5, not when you can get an E55 for $80K. They have always been natural competitors. There will be a huge delineation now between these cars in terms of method of performance (E55 = 469 hp & 516 lb.ft. tq w/ automatic, the new M5 = 500 hp & 370 lb. ft. tq w SMG and massive redline) but I can't see the performane being that much different between the 2. The E55 as many people have dynoed is closer to the original 493 hp that that engine is rated to in the S55 & SL55. Can't wait to see the comparos. If the new M5 can be the 12.3's I have seen the E55 do....WOW !!!
