just for comparsion, this is what it's going up aganist:
Facelifted 7 series:

I actually like the BMW exterior more than the benz (!!!) On the Benz, the front headlamps look cheap, as if they were taken off a civic, and I hate the two paint strips in the back, almost looks like they were glued on. The interior, I like the Benz version better, everything just seems to flow a lot nice inside the Benz.

For all the air M-B puts forth that BMW has no effect on them, this new S sure robs a lot of BMW design ideas wholesale. It also looks like they ripped off some of the shape of the older Infiniti M45. This new caris somehow completely different looking to me than the current S.

Ditto. Every time I see an A8, I think that it has to be the nicest looking big sedan on the market right now (in that price range). W12 for me, please.

The interior is like kitchen cabinets with silver paint a little here and there.
The steering wheel with those two hideous buttons on the two and ten o'clock positions is downright travesty!
The column shifter! Reminds me of some cheapo taxi cab in Hong Kong. Yes, they have column shifter, too.
The demographic of BMW buyers changed overnight from driving enthusiasts who really appreciate the handling and driver oriented interior to rich aristocrats who wouldn't know jack about driving but want a brand new $80k car for show off purposes only.
No wonder the new BMW designs have turned away so many hardcore BMW fans.
Just feel like to rant.
