Default New rules for tire rotation?

My dad told me he was watching Motorweek and they said there are basically new rules for tire rotation. That now days it's okay to cross-rotate, i.e. from left-front to right-rear, right-front to left-rear, etc. Anyone else hear of something like that? I know w/ the S2K having directional tires, we can't do that but with other passenger tires, it's okay. Is this something new?

It has been fine for a long time. The only limiting factor would be if they are directional tires or different sizes.

Wow, guess I've been out of the loop then. Or maybe I've heard it before and forgot about it.

Depends on the tire and how much you value performance. When you rotate a tire and it's "breaking in" to the new position, you will experience lower performance, less grip, and accelerated wear. This is something I'd probably do for a family sedan, but wouldn't think of doing with a sports car.

YMMV

Meh I haven't had a car with a square tire setup or even the same diameter wheels in a long time.
