I should have said perforated textile, not mesh, assuming there's a difference. Fwiw, that's why I wear a leather jacket when I'm out on the backroads or on the highway. For commuting I'm not really going faster than 45-50 mph, so textile burn through isn't really an issue like it would be if I took a spill at 80mph on the highway imo. The Olympia gear has mesh in non-reinforced parts, but no mesh where the armor is. Even with leather you'll get burns if you just slide along though - you need to get yourself rolling, or so I've been told.

I think I'd take sliding over rolling.

Two things: First, if you think 45 - 50 mph is not enough momentum to do serious damage to your gear, you need to research a few studies done comparing leather along with the other materials commonly used in moto apparel, at various speeds. Motorcycle Consumer News did a fantastic project on this a few years back.

Second, do you watch any moto racing? Have you ever seen a fallen rider purposely 'roll'?

I didn't say 45-50 won't damage gear, I implied that at 45 you won't be moving on the ground that long, as opposed to 80. As far as rolling goes, riders that have been down state to get off hot spots before you start to burn from the overheating leather, or in other words, roll to get to less compromised areas of the gear.

So, how far would you suppose you'd slide after a get-off at 45mph?

Do not, I repeat, do not ROLL your way out of a down. You slide your ass off if that is what it takes.

Rolling=Broken bones
Sliding=destroyed gear

If you can afford dainese and if you like how they fit and feel that's what id get. My next jacket is going to be either the santa monica or laguna seca depending on my wallet size lol.

For boots to worn on a daily basis I highly recomend Thor 50/50. You can walk all day in them and good protection, covers the ankle etc.

Never hurts to have a closet full of gear no need to stick with only one jacket.
