Default New Nismo parts for GTR

Ok sure, I'm sure you've seen the story (http://www.motorauthority.com/news/s...t-r/#more-6968) that Nismo has got a whole slew of new parts for the GT-R.

But thats not the best part. Saved for last so that you can soak it in:

"...All the parts are backed by a three-year/60,000km warranty, which will even be honored if the parts are damaged while driving at a race track. However the catch is that owners will need to send their vehicles to a Nismo authorized center after each track session for a full inspection to maintain the warranty."

Bet you AMG, Mazdaspeed, and GM (for Z06/Zr1) will do this if it's successful. And no brainer that Porsche will be on this too. If the manufacturers aren't listening, this is the way to go for those who do 'light' amount of track time.

Man Nissan is just on a roll...

In my opinion, very doubtful Porsche would do this. They already sells tons of S models and various upgrades to people - people who have no intentions to track the car in the first place, nor any expectations of warranty coverage while on the track.

And Mazda already has a very strong race support program (including contingency money for autocross wins!) so I'd be very surprised if they threw in warranty coverage as well.

As for Honda - yeah, I'd LOVE it if they offered more support for race/autox/DE activities, but unfortunately I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Porsche doesn't need to do this. Someone posted not too long ago a Porsche owner tracking his car and his engine blew. Porsche replaced the motor. I doubt Nissan would do that.

Lotus will cover defects and malfunctions that occur on the track under warranty (as long as it's not an officially timed event) and people still complain about not being able to do burnouts and have their clutch covered. Simply can't win.

Aren't those inspections at their authorized centers in excess of a grand? Apparently Nissan can do no wrong...seems like extortion to me.

I'd just be curious how much these inspections cost before I start saying "good job."

At least the option is there. Does the competition offer it? This will hopefully push everyone to do the same and we car enthusiasts can actually enjoy our cars under warranty.

did no one look @ the article?

2 seats, a cat-back exhaust (not even turbo back), new wheels, and dampers with springs.....$50,000. With all the rumours talking about what the Spec-V is gonna be like, why would any one buy these Nismo parts right now?
