OMG! Would you look at this thing!?!?!

Geez, looks like they (Mitsubishi) is taking a step in the wrong direction with the Diamante. I don't get it. The Diamante was a decent looking ride a few years ago. I remember one of my bosses had one (and drove it like it was a Lexus). It was decent, but the interior was very cheap and could have used loads of refinement. But now, why? And it tops off at $27k. And 210hp from a 3.5L V6? Is this a Chrysler powered vehicle?

Wow, This definitely is a step backwards. The front looks like the new redesigned Lancer.

Doesn't do anything for me, but it definitely doesn't qualify as scary. It looks like an older infiniti or something.

I just dont understand how a car designer... ANY CAR DESIGNER, can look at this thing and think its a hit. I dono how it is that Mitsubishi execs can look at this car and think that it will fix their problems...

Ultimately it's not the designers' fault a car looks the way it does. They are usually told that styling has to be aggressive or evolutionary based on sales or some other corporate factor. Government crash regulations don't help either.

Having said that, this is the only Japanese car competing with the Hyundai XG350. Not a very interesting market to go after. Steve is right about his Mitsu Bonneville comment, but even Pontiac's old stalwart gets updated more often and is ultimately more interesting than this piece. The Diamante is one of the few new cars on the market that actually makes the ES330 seem sporty.

Ya know what, I literally would take the Hyundai XG350 over this. That's how appealing I find this car.

The US Diamante is made in Australia.
Hope that explains a lot of your questions about the car's 'crappiness'.
The driving experience is as mediocre as its looks - perhaps that's where the designer got his/her ideas?

The Holden Commodore (GTO) is also built in Australia... it fares much better than that ugly thing.
