WOw, the fixed up pics look really, reallygood, better than the DC5 and the GTS, IMO. Whew, looks like my next project car is a Tibby! I am overly impressed!
Let's see: shed a grip of weight, I/H/E, should bring the times down, very nice...

Yes, Japanese and Koreans are different, however, regarding cars, they are similar, just Korean manufacturers have their own taste and own speed and preferences, which are very different than that of the Japanese.
IMO, I like the graceful lines of Korean cars (well, those that are inKorea) instead of the minimalist chisled look of JDM cars. Regarding "as good" I think they are already "as good." THeir value more thanmakes up for lost time.

I don't buy any car brand until it has proven consistently that its products last 10+ years and 150,000+ miles. Until then, I wait and stick to the tried and true. Anyone want a 10 year old Hyundai Excel?

... and ultimately the general public will depend on such a measure too. It will take time, but not a lifetime. 2007-2010 could be possible. Hyundai could also undermine the entire youth generation just as VW did recently. Get 'em young, have a good car, and you have a customer base that will last a considerable amount of time, if not a life time.
GM/Caddy is trying to accomplish this, as their average age has been around 70 year old on some of their vehicles. And once your customer base dies off, then what?
8.2 sec 0-60, although a yawning feet to some, is still no slouch. The japanese make plenty of slow cars too.
