Default New Hyundai Santa Fe

Unvelied in Detroit, the new Santa Fe:

Certainly an improvement over the hideous 2006 model. I wonder how much it will cost. A worthy competitor to the RAV-4???

I test-drove a 1st generation Santa Fe on a dealer's lot when my wife was shopping SUV's. The brakes were especially crappy (spongy and weak) and the auto tranny shifts felt like big earthquakes (abrupt and slipped a LOT). Those two characterics were seriously bad and the salesman assured me they were typical.

So unless they improved that, the Santa Fe isn't threatening anyone.

The last gen was a winner too. Cheap -- but nice enough that I kept my rental for 3 months instead of trading it in every week. Never done that before.

It's been a long time since I've set foot in a Korean car, but if the mags are correct, it looks like Hyundai's quality is on the up and up, and it's not the domestics who should be worrying, but the imports.

Quality is no longer a problem for Hyundai, but we'll see how long it takes Hyundai's brand and marketing guru's to convince the general public that they WANT to say the words: "That's MY Hyundai."

I opened this thread with all intentions of saying "Are you crazy?!?!" Then I looked at the thing and thought, "Hey, that's not bad looking." They have done a nice job of styling.

Color me VERY impressed. I was never big on how goofy the current one looks, but I would totally roll this one if I needed a good, cheap SUV.

I wonder why they're so reticent to reveal the engine hp ratings.

Oh, and whoever did that Flash site is a toal newb...but then Hyundai's site has never been the watermark among manufacturer sites.
