No matter what it looks like, the 06 Civic is such a great value that Honda needs to lower prices significantly to have someone buy it over a Civic.
I think they should have just made the Civic in a 5 door wagon instead.

The Fit Base and Sport comes with all of that included as well as more cargo versatility (Magic Seats).
A Fit Base is $13850 and Civic DX is $14760. If you want AC then the Civic DX is $16260. I figure most people would skip the DX and get the LX, which is $16710. Thats a $2860 difference between the Fit Base and Civic LX. Thats a significant difference in cost if you ask me, especially in the subcompact/compact class.
Even if you compare a Fit Sport to the Civic LX there is still a $1540 difference. And in this situation the Fit Sport comes with 15 inch alloys, a full body kit and roof spoiler, fog lights, more speakers, and aux in mp3 jack.
So I think the Fit prices are very fair, especially considering how much better the car is than its respective peers (Yaris, Caliber, Versa, Aveo,...). The Civic would be cool in a wagon form, but the US version doesnt have the low center mounted fuel tank. That means no Magic Seats. I guess they could bring over the Euro Civic, but that would be ever more expensive than the US civic.

plus the fit is a more practical car than a civic is. you can haul tons of stuff around in a fit, whereas you can't in a civic. when it comes out, i'm going to go check it out. am considering getting one as a daily driver instead of putting all the miles on my S.

I just never knew why people bought bargain-basement new cars when there are so many viable used car candidates.

The Fit aint that bad. Honda hasn't had a subcompact since the 6th gen Civics (the EKs). The Fit is Honda's re-entry into that class, so is it that weird? People who bought EK hatches were made fun of by lots of their friends, but how many people nowadays wish they had an EK hatchback?

Not all of us want a used car.
Heck, I drive a 95 Integra that my parents bought me and I am tired of the problems that are associated with driving an older car. I.e. ABS that doesnt work, paint that is heavily faded, leather seats that are hard as a rock and very uncomfortable,...
Some of us just want a new car, that we can afford. Maybe even that "new car" smell. What car in the Fit's price range offers 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, as well as great fuel economy, tons of versatility, and cheap maintenace? (chain driven timing belt).

[QUOTE=corey415,Apr 4 2006, 10:44 AM] The base Civic DX doesn't have AC or a radio and comes with black, manually operated side mirrors and manual door locks.
