New Corvette makes Supra and others a dud.

So since Chevy is supposed to not have much price creep on the new model, and the over $100,000 rumors are not true for base model cars with 500 hp mid mounted V8's, does this make cars like the new Supra just flame out? I would not go near a Supra for $50-$60 thousand dollars when you get the new Vette for just a hair more.
It would be another car I really could not drive to work every day, but I would think seriously about plunking down a deposit.

Others a dud? Not everyone wants a Corvette, hell, you bought a Cayman when you've could've bought a Vette instead.

And a 500 hp one in the $65k range with a howling V8 sounds much cooler than a $55k 330 hp Supra.
This is close to a super car at prices near a loaded up Wrangler Rubicon. I also foresee a ton of C7's flooding the used market.

Mid-engined, 500 hp V8 sportscar for $60-70K (actual street price, in all probability)? Heck yeah! That's the bargain of the century, which is consistent with the Corvette's market position in general.
The side scoops look very off to me, though, as does the entire rear end. It just doesn't look that cohesive. The side scoops stick out way too much and the back end looks more squared off compared to the rest of the car. Maybe it'll look better / more unified when it's not camouflaged...
I also see that they're saying it won't come with a manual, just a DCT. That's not a deal-breaker but it is a disappointment.
Also interesting that they're saying the Zora would have an electric motor up front, driving the front wheels, which would give us a mid-engined AWD Corvette with somewhere around 1000 hp. Talk about poor-man's 918 Spyder!

I'm still not sure what Toyota was thinking with the new Supra.
Seems like an exploitation of a great name to have a few sales. They really didn't care about what the car was going to be if they outsourced the entire thing to BMW.
This is akin to what Honda did with the NSX, although, at least Honda engineered it themselves.
Not sure the Corvette will make it a dud, the new Supra has done that on it's own, just like the NSX did.

I dont even call the new Supra a Supra :P IT is a frickin BMW with all the cost of ownership that those bring. I would by the vette all day long before that.
The vette has continued to make much more expensive cars look like a waste of money for a long time now. And the Vettes actually do pretty well on fuel economy (the 18 would get low 20's on the highway... about the same as our V6 Tacoma!) and are not that hard to drive that they make a terrible daily.
Bang for buck it is VERY hard to beat. And due to the "old guy buys it for trophy car, gets tired of sports car and sells it with low mileage" scenarios that go on all over, you can buy used ones pretty cheap. I think Chevy has done a wonderful job on that car for a long time now.

Still, the NSX engine is supposedly $75K! They definitely didn't go the cheap route...
