I still like the current CLK55 better, it's more aggressive looking... however, I wouldn't say "no" to the touring car.

You know years ago when a new MB rolled out, I'd be in awe. If I saw an E500, S600 or even a CL600. I'd wet my pants, change, then wet it again. Nowadays the excitement just isn't there. Do you guys share the same views? One thing that MB has done which has lost my interest is its inability to create differences in their higher end models. I'm taking about appearance. I BET this CLK55's rims and bodykit will be offered as a sports package for the CLK320, 430 (or 500). They've done it with their current CLK, CL, S, ML, and E class models.
Now BMW and Audi does it right. There's no way a guy with a 330ci can duplicate the appearance of an M3, there's no way an Audi S4 avant owner to duplicate the RS4.
By the way, Porsche is making me lose interest in their cars too... what's up with the 'S' models? If you can't afford a Turbo, don't create an 'S' model.
If I'm going to be laying down bucks, there better be distinction.
PS- look at the rear of the CLK55, there's a small chrome trim popping out above the upper left bumper...

I do agree with you though, that sport models should have some minor cues to clearly distinguish the car from the base models. Nothing extravagant or gaudy, but subtle. The M3 and M5 are good examples.
