New Car - Insight vs. Camry
For those who don't know, I bought a 2010 Honda Insight EX with Nav in May and used it as my daily driver. In 6 months, I put over 17k miles on it. On Thursday night, I had an unfortunate accident and landed that Insight in a river. I was very lucky.

So...I'm looking at a new car and came across a 2010 Toyota Camry SE with 2,300 miles. An 80 year old man bought it, didn't like it and traded it for a 2010 Honda Accord EX. At any rate, I did some mileage/fuel comparisons and came up with the following:
Insight $21,000
17,000 miles / 43mpg = 395 gallons X $2.75 (ppg) = $1,086 in fuel costs
Camry $20,000
17,000 miles / 30mpg = 567 gallons X $.275 (ppg) = $1,559 in fuel costs
If I drove 17k miles in 6 months, one could imagine I'll likely drive 34k miles a year and so the fuel costs on the Insight could save me a little more than a grand a year.
Do you think I should go with another Insight or go with the Camry?
Thanks in advance for your time.

If you're going to wreck another car within a year, get the Camry. An extra $500 in gas, but $1k cheaper. Not to mention, you're driving a real car and not a Cracker Jacks box.

Read the thread. Glad you are okay!

I like the solidity of the Camry and it'd be worth it to me to get that size of car over the Insight. It's also a better highway car, which is where I'm assuming you drive a lot to put that many miles on in 6 months.
Camry all the way.
