Some of the opinions here make me . THe M3 gutless? It's not an AMG C63 for torque, but it never fails to get out of its own way, and is genuinely fast when you rev it out.

It's still the standard bearer IMO for best all-around car. I've driven a couple of CTS-V's (at Circuit of the Americas), and the extra toque comes w/ quite a weight penalty. It's a great car, but I still prefer the M3. Should Caddy come out w/ an ATS-V, the competition could stiffen.

Why does it matter that she's Asian?

It means she's 2 stereotypes. She's a female behind the wheel, and Asian.

Put her in a Saab or Volvo. She'll be safer that way.

The CTS-V's I've driven have power steering, power brakes, and adjustable steering wheel and seat. No need to be a big, burly guy to drive one.

So we've discussed it quite a bit, but I love seeing some of the ideas you guys present in Car Talk, so let's hear it!

So far we've test-driven an '09 IS-F (if buying, we'd get a 10+ for the rear LSD.)

IS-F Pros: Lexus fit and finish, superb reliability, good MPG, a car you don't have to be afraid of owning after warranty, can be had Lexus CPO, sounds great, fun to drive, great engine, looks good, comfortable, fast enough.

IS-F Cons: Not available in 6-speed. My GF is sad that it only comes in automatic and hates the paddle-shifters.

Other cars we are going to test drive (you can guess which ones I suggested hahahaha ) :

C6 Z06
09+ CTS-V
Mustang GT 5.0
Subaru BRZ
BMW 135i/335i CPO
BMW 1M (if we can find one to test drive)

Amy ideas, input? GF is a 25 year old Asian female, so keep that in mind. She won't consider an Evo or STI, either. She likes nice interiors.
maserati cambiocorsa
maserati quattroporte
porsche 996s
porsche 993s
evora
997?
honda fit

VW EOS
Fiat 500
Mini Cooper
VW Beetle
Mazda 2
Honda S2000

Yea, I said it.

If she likes nice interiors that should count out the Mustang, Z06 and BRZ.

Low end torque sucks on it. She loves low end torque. 5.0 Mustang feels a lot better driving around town.

It is gutless. It feels slow bc of no torque. It feels like a bigger fatter s2000
Exactly. What is it, like 260 wtq at peak? In a 3800 lb car? No thanks.

S65 = 5 times consecutive engine of the year award for 3-4 litre, gutless LOLto the OP, just get a corvette if you want low down torque you obviously have no idea how a gearbox worksThe M3 has one of the flattest torque curves in any car on the market, all the way from 3900 to 8400
Flat torque curve of what, 230-250 wtq? That's pretty weak, sorry. Who cares if it's flat if it's so low? S2000 has a flat torque curve too.

Also, I drive a 2.0L 4 cylinder motor with a closer ratio gearbox than an S2000. I know how to work a gearbox, quite a bit better than you I'm sure.

But he complains the M3 has no torque and it's gutless yet it's as fast, if not faster (4.5-4.7 0-60 vs 4.8 for the Stang) than the Mustang GT which weighs the same and has 100 lbs/ft more torque. But you get the fit and finish of an M3 instead of a Mustang which everyone owns. Then you get the CTS-V which has over 100 more HP and over 250 more lbs/ft and a 0-60 time of 4.0-4.3. So I fail to see how the M3 is gutless. Not to mention he has a BRZ on the list which makes no sense after that statement.
How does 0-60 time have ANYTHING to do with how a car outputs low-end torque and how good it feels to drive around town? My car does 0-60 in 3 seconds flat, does that mean I'd want my girlfriend to daily drive it? No, because it's a high-revving motor that has to go into boost to make the huge torque it does. Again, the M3 by 'driving around town' standards, for those that want responsive torque, IS gutless. There is no denying that.

My E30 had 200-230 wtq torque curve from 2800 RPM til 7200 RPM, and it was a 2600 lb car. The M3 only has 30 wtq more at peak in a 1200 lb heavier car! Sorry, I love the current gen M3, but it doesn't fit her wants/desires in a car.

Also, if we did the BRZ, I'd throw in a positive displacement blower on it. Robispec (an affiliate of mine) has one and it's putting out like 250~ wtq at 3000ish RPM. Feels GREAT. Monster of a track car, currently the fastest FRS/BRZ in the US but still able to be daily driven.

CTS V actually gets roughly the same MPG as M3 and actually gets BETTER highway MPG according to real world reports, yet has what, 2x as much torque? You have no clue because you completely missed the point of this thread, stupid troll.

I think the M3 is superbly balanced but I think the new M3 with turbo will be even better thanks to the better MPG and low end. Can't wait for that one.

Z06 isn't that bad. I haven't sat in a loaded BRZ interior, and yeah the Mustang is kinda eh. I want her to give the American cars a chance though!!

Just buy her a bike. Most bikes are quicker than all you have mentioned. And if you want luxury put in heated hand grips. Thread over. Why bother asking everyones opinion if you are just going to knock them all down. Just have her drive all of the cars you mentioned, weigh out the prices, and buy it. There is no real science behind it.. Girls usually dont care about numbers anyways.
