New BMW 'M' roadster coming in late 2005?
#11
those pics are ~2 years old
as someone above stated, iirc page 33 of this months roundel reports that the MZ4 will ge tthe same 4.0L 400hp V8 that will go into the e90 M3
I wouldn't think BMW would keep producing the s54 just for a low production car such as a MZ4. So, the new M roadster will either debut with the 3.2L I6 & then transition to the 4.0L V8, similar to the last gen M roadsters transition, or simply start with the V8.
IMO I bet that depends on when the mz4 debuts. BMW will most definitly want to debut the v8 in the m3 not the z4, hence if the mz4 comes before the m3, increased chance of a 6 vs. 8...
Though I'm still inclined to believe roundel that it will have the v8...I'm sure most ppl would prefer that instead of having the risk of another models engine grenading...

The last M roadsters (and M coupes) that used the M3's S54 motor were a hoot -- and fairly quick. One of the moderators over at bimmerforums.com with loads of experience ripped of a 12.556 in a stock one...
While I would welcome the return of the M roadster, man that Z4 is ugly.

That's it. . . I'm going to Munich with a bull horn:
"Moechten Sie bitte ein neues Automobil-Design-Studio finden?"
I ain't leaving until they come out with a design that doesn't make me (and most everyone I know) go, "What the hell they thinkin'?"
Nice of them to get the Z4 to go faster, though! Toll!

Holy cow! Are you serious?
Now here is a stupid statement. My 02 S54 M coupe "felt" like a low 13 second car. It certainly gave no inklings as to being a Z06 killer.
