New Audi RS5 - Twin Turbo 4.2L V8 (450 HP!)
Audi's high-performance RS5 has stepped out of the shadows! Our photographers captured these shots of the upcoming performance coupe testing completely undisguised.
Powered by a 450bhp 4.2-litre twin-turbo V8, it’s more powerful than the 414bhp 4.0-litre V8-engined M3 and boasts a Quattro four-wheel drive system too, available with a choice of both six-speed manual and seven-speed twin-clutch gearboxes.
The choice of engine has come as a shock to many who believed that the V10 engine used in Audi's flagship R8 would power this latest performance model. However, high consumption figures from these large capacity engines have meant that manufacturers are reluctant to use them, opting instead for turbocharged, smaller engines.
Performance will be epic with 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 155mph. The RS5 will be a match for the M3 in the corners too with stiffened and lowered suspension, a wider track and stickier rubber.
In addition to four-wheel drive, it will also boast Audi’s new active rear differential – as used by the latest S4 – which helps distribute torque to different wheels, aiding agility and traction.
Audi is expected to announced the RS5 at next year's Geneva Motor Show. Prices will start at around £48,000

All M3's after their mid-cycle facelift will only be available with a Competition package and will receive a slight power bump as well. At least that's what my sources say. Things will be still be a nice match given how much heavier the Audi will be. Sexy coupe, though!

Looks good but, like a poster said on the other site, it looks almost exactly the same except for the front. Fender flares and more aggressive wheels/rubber would've done a lot for the car (though it's still gorgeous!).
That said, the M3 is probably going to be at least as quick in a straight line since less drivetrain losses (RWD vs AWD).
The current S5 weighs 3593 lbs vs the M3 weighing about 3700 lbs, give or take. So, similar weight when it's all said and done, probably.
I'd still bet the M3 is the sportier car.

IMO the real competitor to the M3 will be the RS4. The RS5 much larger than the M3. I'm disappointed in this motor's output. However, Audi has just shed 250 lbs. or so with their aluminum space frame off of an A5, and has been planning on reducing the weight of their cars vs. increasing HP, which is a better direction IMO.

I think people are missing that the M3 has a very peaky output (like an S2000 on steroids). The TT'd V8 is going to be a destroyer down low with an AWD launch.
That 4.5 second figure is probably the conservative factory estimate. The RS4 has been mag tested at 4.3 seconds....

OMG, this car will be teh sex. I always loved the design of the a5/s5 but just felt that they were underpowered. If audi goes through with this and the TT isn't a nightmare like the b5 s4, then I'm sold!
EDIT: I'm actually not so sure about the validity of this article. The article states that the RS5 is undisguised, but everything besides the front bumper looks like a stock S5.....and where did they get the TT 4.2L putting down 450HP???
