New 911 Turbo S: 530 HP
#21
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the reason for this car, in general, and for the transmission specifically has to do with the GTR. THe regular "row your own gears" 911 turbo is only marginally slower than the GTR, but depending on who is doing the driving, it could be much slower. This transmission adds several advantages in performance, but more in maintaining the car as a bench march.
Anyone disagree?

I agree with you guys that the PDK will shift faster than I can ever shift and it'll keep the TT in boost between shifts a lot better than I can. BUT, I probably won't ever track the car and I'm not racing 0-60 from light to light when I'm on the street or timing myself on the way to the supermarket. I think after a while the PDK will get boring, nothing beats rowing your own gears in a sports car. I guess the purists can still get the base TT, GT3, & the RS in 6spd.....for now. The 911TT has been slowly evolving into a GT car so I guess the PDK only Turbo S is not really a big surprise.
Of course, I am only guessing this model will bridge the performance gap between the regular turbo 911 and the GT-R.

There were a few discussions on 6speed regarding the new "integrated dry sump" system on the new turbo engines. Seems like it's different from a traditional true dry sump system. IIRC, they couldn't fit the PDK on the older GT1 blocks because of the dry sump system.
This is also a departure of the incremental approach Porsche used to take in development. From what I read from Car and Driver, Volks plan to make Porsche the brand to lead with innovation. Kind of like what Nissan did to the GTR, and Mercedes.

T What it gets in return is much less parts (something crazy like 40% less if I recall correctly), which "should" make it less costly to manufacture and reliable.

The thing about the PDK is it's too good.
I mean look at this blazing 0-100 whilst drinking the coke. Talk about no driver involvment.
