There is also something unusual about the engine lubrication. The dry sump system has SIX intake pumps and a "fully controlled compressed oil pump - a first for a production Porsche." A gear is hydraulically adjusted to change the pump's gear mesh. Supposedly this system requires less total power for the pumps, has reduced parts count (hard to believe), and saves 8.8 lbs.

I'm not too excited about this. It seems like the only thing exclusive to the S is the 30hp hike in power. Everything thing else is optional on the standard Turbo. And why is manual transmission not offered with the S?

Double-clutch gearboxes are the future, and this is coming from a guy who just bought a 6-speed Cayman. Especially on these ultra-high-performance cars, it's really foolish to have a manual box because when you're talking about 3.3s 0-60 times, putting a human in charge of the gearshifts would become a significant limiter to performance. It's smoother and faster in any situation -- it's simply better.
If you want to drive an anachronism that has less than 400hp and lets you row the shifter yourself, buy an S2000 or a 6-speed Cayman.

PDK in a TT seems like the *perfect* super-GT mix (and it'll still do track duty if you want ... there's always the GT3 for weekends too ).
I wonder what the delta is for a TT/S vs. a TT optioned up to the level of an S?
I mean, at that price point, what's another $xxx for a little extra factory HP and exclusivity.

I agree with you guys that the PDK will shift faster than I can ever shift and it'll keep the TT in boost between shifts a lot better than I can. BUT, I probably won't ever track the car and I'm not racing 0-60 from light to light when I'm on the street or timing myself on the way to the supermarket. I think after a while the PDK will get boring, nothing beats rowing your own gears in a sports car. I guess the purists can still get the base TT, GT3, & the RS in 6spd.....for now. The 911TT has been slowly evolving into a GT car so I guess the PDK only Turbo S is not really a big surprise.
