I don't mind the S2000 being a little slower than these cars. They're virtually a decade newer than the S, and the S is still a very pure driving experience. I would only take the Cayman S over the S for sheer driving pleasure and the 911 for being a playboy, but the S2k is still hands down one of THE funnest cars around.

-> I used to remember for the 1st 4-5 years of its existance almost no car could touch the S of the same price category, the only near-threat to the S was the 986 Boxster S. But as newer models evolved, they have caught up slowly, and the result was the video and some magazine publicatons of today.

-> Once Honda get through the economic crunch, they will eventually build a worthy successor that other cars would follow again. Long live S2000!

S2000s need more power to be competitive against cars like these on a track.
The s2000 gets passed on the straight and is often pushed to go wide on turns because of somebody cutting on the inside after the straight.

135 has 300 hp
cayman s has 295
370z has 330
carrera has 345
s2000 has ... 240

Despite that fact, the s2000 still ran similar time attacks as the 135 and the cayman s. I think that's pretty damn impressive for the amount of power it's packing. Stock powered s2000s never do too well at the track due to the straights. Not to be a touge fanboy, but if you were run these cars for time attack on a mountain I'm willing to bet the results will be different.

I can go much faster in my Cayman S whether it's on street or track. Better acceleration, better aerodynamics, better handling, better braking....the S2000 gets beat across the board ex. when you throw price or the convertible top into the discussion.

I'm convinced those "battles" are staged for entertainment purposes.

They are certainly "gentlemen's races" - they aren't banging sheetmetal and going for blood for sure. I don't know if I'd say staged, but if they staged the cars fastest to slowest instead of the other way around, you'd see more racing and less traffic getting holed up by a slow car while one car gets free and builds a lead.

I never tried to convince anybody that a s2000 will perform better than a Cayman s. For the price of one it SHOULD perform much better than a s2000.

I have nothing but for that car.

Agreed, and I still have a lot of love for the S2000. In fact, I've been thinking about rotating my cars, and if I sold the CS + Miata I'd consider another S2000 (esp. C/R) to replace both as a cost-cutting move. I love the deals in the marketplace these days, the only problem is that it would hurt me on the sale of my cars!

I was surprised that the 911 came in 3rd place.
Thought the 135 would have done better as well.

^^^I personally am not that impressed with the 135, watched one at an autox, just did not impress me to much. Granted it did dominate the class (at a national level event), but they put the damn thing in D-stock, LOL. I wonder if they changed its class for this season??
