New 6.2L 510hp Mercedes motor or 7.0L 505hp LS7?

Definitely seems like 2 different engines. One more geared to smooth effortless power in a luxury line with 7 speed automatic, the other max hp in a street race car with a 6 speed manual.

autoweek's got an article on the Merc motor too. They say it weighs 438 lbs for those wondering. Now we need to find out how much the LS7 weighs

"Most importantly, the dyno graphs show that output torque never drops below 350 lb-ft from just off idle all the way to redline, providing flexibility that is nearly unequaled among production engines"
Not so sure where i got the info, but i did a google search and game up on a corvette internet mag, so take it with a grain of salt.

Well, I say it's pointless as to which is the best engine it's splitting hairs and you can't swap them even if you wanted to. An Enzo or Carrera GT has a better engine than either, but engine alone costs more than an entire car.
We'll all say the 2.0L honda is better than the toyo engine in an Elise but as a whole package the Elise (seems to me) is better in spite of it's lesser engine.
Also say a 240hp engine in a Boxster is better than the 240hp in the S2000 but how much better and how much more expensive? For another $10K beyond the S2000 you're getting some extra TQ but the same HP. I know you're getting more than just the engine with the S2000 v Boxster so it's hard to say how much the engine costs.
My point is, the Z06 costs $65k and the MB will probably cost at least $85k

LS7 gets pretty good gas mileage for a 505hp V8. How does the new mercedes engine do?
Here's a little example from how-stuff-works -->>click
1,000 horsepower is equivalent to roughly 2.6 billion joules per hour. A gallon (3.8 liters) of gasoline contains 132 million joules, so a 1,000-hp engine has to be able to burn just over 20 gallons of gasoline per hour.
However, car engines are only about one-quarter efficient -- three quarters of the gasoline's energy escapes as heat rather than as power to the wheels. So the engine actually has to be able to burn at least 80 gallons per hour, or 1.33 gallons (5 liters) per minute

The EPA cycle never does full power acceleration and never goes over 70mph so whatever a car gets on EPA cycle does not mean what it'll get in the real world.

However, there are actually two GM quoted weights for the LS1 according to HotRod Mag (link below). The auto was 460lb the Manual was just over 500lb (fully dressed). The difference in weights is because the automatic version of the engine does not have a flywheel (the torque converter housing acts as a flywheel).
I also recall the new BMW M5 motor was something like 535lb dressed. I believe it would include the flywheel weight. I suspect that MB is probably not lighter than the BMW or GM motors when you add (or subtract) the flywheel and other dressing.
