Default New 5,400lb BMW M5

Wow, the Blackwing is the last true luxury sport sedan on the market. The rest of them are fat pigs. 5,400lbs. Wow. I'm sure the next RS6/7 and E63 will be following in the chubby footsteps of the M5.

I had the first allocation for the new m5 touring. Would have been the perfect daily driver. But im not buying a wagon that weighs more than most suvs.

I actually just drove the Blackwing and Jesus Christ is it amazing. I put down a deposit immediately. It's one of the best cars ive ever driven, especially one that has no compromises.

1100 lbs more than my wife's Odyssey. I seriously don't understand why these companies don't recognize that reduced weight has a far greater benefit than more power and torque. Ridiculous that a car like this weighs so much!

I'm convinced that they're doing this to make EVs look more appealing in comparison. Nothing else makes sense!

M5 gains 1000 lb
AMG GT gains 700 lb
C63 AMG gains 700 lb

It's super embarrassing.

2,200 pounds more than my C7 Vette. Two questions: mileage and handling.

It is all about that 0-60 and 1/4 time. Big heavy engine, throw in an electric motor, now some batteries, and you can't get a good launch without AWD. Add a beefy chassis to hold it all together, along with gigantic wheels and big stoppers. Don't forget all the extra plumbing and coolant weight for the turbos and intercoolers.

In all honesty, I think I would find it a ton of fun for a few days, and then maybe a comfortable long haul car. But I could also name a dozen cars made I would want more for a lot less money that are currently in production, and several dozen long since gone.

The upside is, if you hold onto it long enough for the car to be shot and the resale to be zero, you still have a gold mine of aluminum, steel, cobalt, copper, lithium and a bunch of other stuff you could sell to a recycler.

Smh, unnecessarily heavy, fortunately it has a V8 so it'll sound nice, but I don't get why they needed to go hybrid to achieve what... 700ish hp? V8, twin turbo, and hybrid, to make about the same power of a Hellcat. It better get like 40mpg or something to make this worthwhile.

I think they're going for that power level to keep up with the EV's that have silly performance. Not suggesting I agree with it, just trying to reason why.

^It's slower than it's predecessor though.

Just like how the new C63 isn't any faster than it's predecessor once you remove the advantage of AWD from a standing start.
