Get the 06 - GPW is a very desirable and hard-to-find color, at least in the U.S. Have a mechanic check out the car for you if you have doubts. One owner is good. And that's not that many kms for an 06. Definitely steer clear of the 09. Good luck!

Get the '06 inspected by a reputable mechanic familiar with the S2000.

I'd take an '06 in decent shape plus $14,000 staying in my pocket any day over a brand-new '09.

Regarding resale value, the new one will lose a LOT more value through depreciation than the used '06 will over any stretch of ownership time considered.

I bought an 06 at 9000 miles. It felt like a brand new car when I bought it. Even smelled new.

It is now at 33000 miles. The car feels different now. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing mechanically wrong with the car. It's a Honda. But the "new car" experience is totally gone.

I wouldn't give much credit to GPW being a desirable color. Get it if you like it, but not because others may want it. That's ridiculous.

06 hands down unless you like paying depreciation

Thanks. Heh, preferably not. Saving the extra $14k in my own pocket rocks as well.

BTW 11000km = 6600 miles. Still, that's a bit high for 'tire kicking'

I'm going to have a look at the 06 tomorrow.. hopefully it turns out ok, though I do like the platinum white color..

But like my friend said, the 06 single owner has been driven by 1 guy, and the 09 dealer demo was driven by many.. so I think if it looks good I'll try to talk him down a few thousand dollars.

Look at it this way. The '06 thru '09 are exactly the same car in any meaningful comparison. The condition and mileage are the only criteria that should be considered. It would be impossible to justify the overpriced '09 with a simular conditioned/milaged '06 or any AP2 for that matter.l

If you can afford it, definitely get the newest model with the least miles.
I never did understand this mentality.

Sure less chance of a problem caused by a P.O. but unless you are loaded and like wasting money, buying a new car is never a good idea financially. Have the used car checked out by a good mechanic including a leak down and compression test if you are worried it was abused. If you have to finance the car saving $15,000 off the cost at a 5+% APR loan is a lot of money saved! I don't regret buying used in the least and will never buy a car new.

There is little point of purchasing a new car when the same car lightly used at a fraction of the price. Any Canadian S2000 above $30k isn't really worth it, especially when the same car would be selling for less than $24k in the states. Although it is a crazy hassle to import one.

I suggest that you get the car checked out by a mechanic that you trust if you are worried about its history. Once the car is jacked up, they will be able to spot problem areas for you in seconds. Best of luck! Bring us back good news. =]

Thanks again everyone. Couldn't sleep last night becasue of this, again.. lol.

I'm leaning towards that 06.. that leaves me some money left over for goodies, emergency funds, etc.. that 09 is stretching myself some.. though I can afford to lose the $1000 deposit I left over the weekend on it, it's easier to have $x000-1k in my pocket than being out $40k.

Will keep you updated. If that 06 doesn't pan out I'll have to keep looking.

Edit: Why was my post moved to "Car Talk?" Isn't it relevant enough to be in S2k Talk?
