Default Negotiating at Mercedes dealers?

My parents are thinking of buying a new '04 Mercedes E320. I will go with my dad to take a look and make the deal. We've been to various avarage car dealers but never upscale like Mercedes. I was wondering what kind of price negotiating technique should I go with without looking like a like an ass. The base E320 is about $47K MSRP and with options, the one we want is about $50K MSRP before tax. What do you think a fair purchase price for the car would be for the $50K MSRP?

Maybe you should play the internet game and try that for a few weeks first? Pitting dealerships against each other is time-consuming, but well worth it in the end.

internet contact can work something, around here for new they can sell at what factory allows them too...but used or even from another brands used car lot you can really deal.

Shop over the phone, especially with Mercedes.

It would be better if your parents can wait a few months to buy the 2005 E-class. I believe that for MY05 the new 3.5 liter E350 with 4-valve engine and about 270 hp will be available.

Never pay list unless it's an AMG or other low volume car. An E320 is the Ford Taurus of the Mercedes line, you should work the price down. Good luck with the car. I had a C32 and it was nothing but problems for over a year. I will never by another Mercedes again.

you find what competition the E320 has......go to those dealers first (BMW, Audi, Cadillac, etc)......and see what price you can get for those cars first.

Then you go back to the Mercedes dealer and start dealing with the price of there competition in hand......

hey, i recently had to find a car for my mom and after extensive hustling, i was able to buy one for 500 over invoice. i think thats a good deal considering that it included the AMG sport package (body kit + wheels) and it was for a 2004 S500, also it was very hard to track down the color combo we wanted (white/charcoal). i think with the E320, u should be able to get one for invoice since there are so many of them, also if you want options and are picky, its best to order one exactly the way you want and dont settle for whats on the lot.

Thanks for all the inputs, guys. My concern is how would the Mercedes saleman compare to other average dealer salemen. We all know how BS salemen can be, I was wondering if they're the same type at Mercedes dealers.

Let's just say they are more educated about the car than your average salesperson. My salesperson was very knowlegable about the car I was buying and he knew more about other cars in the same class. Once I went car shopping with an old roommate and a salesman was showing us a 4-cylinder avenger. He showed us the speedo, which read a very optimistic 150mph, and told us,"see look this car can go 150mph." We almost laughed and left.
