Steponme, I'll check those out.

What about a XC90 I5 Turbo? Anyone have an experience with those?

A used highlander or pilot - but the 3rd row in both are pretty tight - I've been in both, and for adults good in a pinch, but I wouldn't want to ride in them for more than a short time.

When I was looking for an SUV I test drove a bunch of them. The Flex was actually excellent. I wanted something slightly smaller and more sporty but if my wife had driven the Flex she would have wanted it.

I test drove a XC90 today and liked it overall. The 3rd row seating is very small but the truck itself is very smooth and even though the turbo 5 is rated to only 208hp, it's still very smooth and stable. Overall I liked it but it did have some "quality" issues. There were a few creaks and I didn't find a good seating position.

I have yet to try the Flex but tomorrow I will.

Are the XC90s fairly reliable?

The Flex is really cool, but based on the newness and the list prices, I doubt you'll find one for $20k. Best bet in that range IMO is a CX-9. They're big crossovers, but actually drive pretty darn nice for their size.

Why the emergency to buy an SUV? That kind of timing for a vehicle purchase prob. isn't going to result in the ideal outcome.

There are a few CPO'd Flexi for 22-23k. But they don't have as many options as the XC90 I found. The CX9 doesn't look too bad either.

The reason I'm looking for an SUV is because my parent's 2005 Ford Explorer is starting to become a problem child (dad is a bit skeptical about buying Ford again) and they want to get something else before it becomes a serious money pit.

Have you looked into Hyunda/Kia SUVs? They are quite nice and still fairly affordable....
