300 SRT-8, Accord, or Passat 3.6L depending on how much coin you want to spend ($25-40k)

I love these threads!
My personal pref is the Legacy GT Limited - its not as roomy as the Accord, but I love the engine growl, awd and amenities (heated seats, nav, sunroof, etc). Of course you can get these on most of the other cars you listed too, but the Subaru is a more rare car if you're looking to break out of generic cars.
Given that your in TX and already have a truck, you may not need the awd, so I'd look at the Accord too - its just a great car. The 3 and 5 both have almost identical room inside, so I'd probably go with the 3. Not a fan of the Chrysler 300C? SRT8? You can get awd on it too...

Off topic: These are some of the names of towns found in Texas: Palestine, New London, Paris, New boston. We are so international.

What about Audi?
No Lexus/Infiniti/Acura etc. really limits it. The Jetta GLI may be better (more sporty) than the Passat with same engine.
I like the Legacy GT but 330i (IMO) is the best small sedan.

You should definitely check out the IS350 and see if it is your cup of tea.
On the 3-series versus 5-series BMW, I recently chose the 330i. I could have swung the 5 series but I didn't want it. I sat in both and the driver has almost identical "room." I expected more comfort in the 5-series but it seems the rear seat passengers get most of the gain (and a little more between driver & passenger that was of no value).
Personally I ruled out the Audi A4 3.2 and Acura TL because I wanted rear-wheel-drive.
The Avalon is most definitely the best value on your list. I checked it out (even though FWD) because of that. They have a somewhat confusing set of trim levels. My wife looked at it with me and said, "you're not THAT old yet." Too bad because I can see where it would be hard to beat for a commute car and we were both very comfortable in it.
