Default Need advice from C5 owners

I'm going to be trading in my car for a C5 very very soon, but I don't know much about them. I plan on getting a targa top, and a manual trans., but other than that I'm open for MY's, etc.

Do any of you owners have any advice on certain model years or things to watch out for? Any good vette forums? Any info at all!?!??!

(thanks in advance)

Well I found the Z06 forum helpful. I'd check them out:

http://www.z06vette.com/

Even if they specialize in Z06 they will know of other forums for regular C5's and will be very helpful.

Here's my 2c

1) wait for the C6 that's the car you want. It won't depreciate to hell like the C5 will, the C5 has been out too long (IMO).

That doesn't come out until 2005, right?

the c6 should be out next year. It's a 2005 model, but will be out in 2004. I would give em a year to work out the kinks and pick up a used one for a steal. I am looking at doing the same thing with the C6 Z06 in a couple of years.

no, the C6, just like the C5, will depreciate like crazy. Vettes are very well known for having terrible depreciation. I would expect the C6 to be no different. Which is the great thing about them!! Vettes have a rabid fan base who will buy them new, baby them, and sell them for whatever new/er vette comes out. This allows me, someone who could care less who makes the car, to pick up good deals!!

No they are not. Who provides you with your misinformation?

The C5 sold quite well without incentives for the first 4 years or so. If you think back to a lot of the GM promotions they were always "excluding corvettes".

Until about 2 yars ago. Now you can get 0% for 60 months AND $3000 off. That's not bad if you are looking for a good deal. It may offset the poor resale value.

The thing these never ending incentives does to resale is very bad. Why buy a used GM if you can get a new one for such a good deal?

For example the new Z06 (01) was selling for OVER MSRP, 2 years later you can get a brand new and better 03 Z06 UNDER MSRP.

Next as was mentioned a lot of people with C5's will be dumping them for the C6, that will put a glut of used C5's in the market. Big supply and small demand will make them dirt cheap.

But the resale is only one reason why the C6 is worth the wait. The base C6 will be as powerful as the Z06 is now. It's style should be a mile better. The C6 shares the platform with the new XLR and that's getting rave reviews. The interior should be a lot better because it can't get worse.

Lol do you really want to wait a year or two for a car? Thats one thing I usually dont get. Maybe its just because I am young or impatient.

Like 2 years ago when I wanted a car, people would say wait for the RSX-R. Lol I would have still been waiting.

I say keep your eyes open for a low mileage 2002 Z06 driven by some old dude. You can find them in the mid 30s these days. Prolly want to stay away from the 2001 as they had some oil consumption problems.
