Get a mustang GT. You'll fit right in with the other mustang owners.

get a sedan for under $5K. It's gonna get beat even if it doesn't get outright wrecked. The extra seating area and room will come in far handier than a car a high school student cannot afford. And by "afford" I don't mean just purchase price. Things like insurance, gas, tires, maintenance, etc. will chew up your cash.
A RWD V8 sedan will be a fun car to drive and not kill you if you screw up. You'll be able to actually learn how to drive a real car without being in a deathtrap. And since resale is rather low for RWD sedans in general, you'll get more car for your money.
But then everyone will tell you the same thing, and you're not going to listen because you are 16

My first car was a sports car, and yes, I spun it, but that doesn't mean I don't think you should get one. I'd actually get a MX-5 or RX-8 though - they are easier to drive and you have no driving experience.
The S is too much car for you at this point imo, but you have to learn to drive rwd fun cars at some point in life, so no reason to wait. Just get a better behaved car like the very capable RX-8, or a roadster with less power like the MX-5. You can get both for less money, insurance is less, you can rotate the tires so they'll last longer, and the RX has stability control.

I first car was a 1986 Nissan 200SX (S12) and a 1992 240SX (S13) and I must say I was glad I got them because I didn't have much money but learned how to work on my own cars because I couldn't afford to pay a mechanic. I met some really good people as well locally that helped me out and it was the best experience ever.
I wouldn't recommend anyone one of those cars.
Why not something economical like a used Civic or even a GTI.

00/01 are pretty cheap. Most 16 year olds get a plan where parents pay for insurance kid buys the car or the opposite.
