Agreed. My Miata is slow as hell on the highway. IF I downshift to third it is potent, but I rarely have the balls to downshift into peak power on such a tail happy car while going down the highway. Screw that.

regardless, still arguing modded vs stock. if he gets bolt ons, I want bolt ons kind of deal. so why dont we just drop the who's faster argument so this doesn't degrade to far into arguing semantics.

Yes, JonBoy got it right. The NC comes w/ a very restrictive exhaust manifold w/ a precat, and it responds much better than the S to aftermarket headers. 25-30 hp gains aren

Chris, thanks for the post. I would love to have you take me for a spin in your miata next time I'm in Austin. Too bad some people are too worked up trying to defend their car to realize how many other great cars are out there to enjoy.

[QUOTE=GT_NFR,Aug 11 2009, 10:32 AM] Also, I noticed you're running 17x9 all around for the track.

I really like the newer front end of the even newer miata (out now? or coming out).

As an owner of a mazdaspeed3 I dream of seeing that motor or something with similar beef from the factory for the miata. I know there are many people out here with boosted S2ks and can never have enough power but me personally I think 260-300hp (that speed3 engine responds very well to mods) would be just fine.

Zach, go ahead and waste your money on over-priced S2000 exhaust and intakes, and then report back how many extra rwhp they get you.

Im not sure how we go from comparing a modded car to stock car to zach the f22 responds poorly to mods.

Yes I know intakes and exhaust do little to improve our performance. Don't be angry honda designed the s2000 so well. That's why I'm stock, we got it right the first time.

I wasn't picking sides, I was simply making the point it's a bad comparison because you're still comparing apples to oranges.

to Miatas. I drove the balls off a 2nd gen. one (NB?) for a few days at Lime Rock and it was a blast to drive, just really agile and responsive, even if it wasn't very powerful.

I love the NC Miatas too (did they give up trying to call it the MX-5 here in this market?), but I'm really not crazy about the new face that they're putting on all the Mazdas these days.

Thanks for the comparison on the CR vs. modded NC. That's the kind of information I'm always on the lookout for on car boards.

And you're comparing a car that stickers for more than $10,000 more. He was posting giving his OPINION of the two cars as they currently are. What difference does it make that one has mods and the other doesn't?
