DT, what is the source for the list at the top of the page?

I found it just searching for some torsional rigidity specs for the S2000. Let me look through my history and find the link!

Here ya go!

Another Miata vs. S2000 thread! Like this topic has not been beaten up enough?

ok...my 2 cents, owned two miata's , a 1990 and a 2001. Lots of fun, got me into the S2000. The miata is the best bang for the buck roadster out there, handles well, but next to my honda it is second place in the performance dept, and even in looks. Every day driver it also ranks second due to a real a/c that works, better brakes, all options for performance included/mods are not required to beat that minivan accross the intersection, superior seats, and a larger trunk.
The NC has about as much in common w/ your old Miatas as it does w/ the S2000. It's an entirely different car (maybe the lugnuts are the same, though the NC has 4 more of them). It's actually better as a DD, since the NC's AC works just fine, the brakes are better than the S2000's (no fade @ track so far, and they haven't been touched), and it has more comfort, better tq in normal driving, heated seats, side airbags, 6 disc in-dash changer, tilt steering, less turbulence in cabin, wider opening doors, better top, better gas mileage, etc.

No doubt the S is faster (and better handling in stock form), but the NC fares much better as a DD.

Chris, I think you like your NC more than the Cayman

^^^ i find both cars to be pretty bad for DD's ... and the bose system is pretty poor in the NC. Also I would disagree with you on wind noise. I had more wind noise in the NC (highway driving at least).

It does have an awesome soft top and better 0-20 driving in the city. I agree it is more comfortable and I actually liked the side door cupholders... even though most NC owners complained about them hitting their legs.

The NC really felt slow after 50mph IMO.

I have my quirks with the S as well but no need to share those

A stock NC wouldn't have a chance against an S2000
That's all I needed to see in this thread.

In some ways, I do. I have more fun tracking it, b/c operating costs are relatively cheap, I don't have to worry as much about losing a bunch of money if I crash it. I even have every bit as much if not more fun driving it than the M3...it just suits the tight twisties and tracks I like, and traffic/fear of expensive repurcussions limits my triple digit driving on public roads these days. I suspect the Miata will be around longer than the M3, even though the M3 is a better all-around car.

P.S. The numbers could all be bullshit, I'm just saying.

^One thing abt torisonal rigidity...I have NO numbers to back this up, but with a slight drop on coilovers on my AP1, with NO aftermarket body bracing whatsoever, my car will lift one wheel when I go over certain curbs...no other STOCK car I have ever seen will do this. The only one i've seen doing this (same curb) was a neon SRT-4 that was caged, slight drop, idk what else...
my Mazdaspeed 3 lifts one tire off the ground going over many different curbs. shit even when I was rotating my tires recently I only have the shitty emergency scissor jack that you are supposed to use to get one corner of the car off the ground at a time. I had that jack right behind the passenger front tire, before I had that tire high enough off the ground the back passenger tire was high enough, had half the car jacked off the floor from almost the corner of the damn car.

chassis rigidity is something that should not be measured in terms of absolute torsional rididity. I like the second batch of numbers brought up that introduces weight into the equation but also dimensions of a car, wheelbase, and drive train layout itself usually have such a profound effect on chassis design that it is very hard to compare one car to another.

whats most importion for proper suspension geometry is to have the high stress areas be reinforced as much as possible, strut towers, subframe connection points, etc. unfortunately these numbers do not represent details like this as well.

Miatas are girly. Put it next to an s2k with rims coilovers and a lip and the s2k is way meaner looking. Add a Hardtop to the S and it'll shit miatas before it's nap after a track day
