so I'm guessing that the elise doesn't use a toyota ecu. saps my dream of taking it to a toyota dealer for servicing if it needs to be hooked up to a diagnostic machine
First, why would you mess with your ECU unless you want to mod for F/I or N/A tuning? Second why would you use a dealer in that or any scenario? Also there are a few ECU tuning gurus in the Lotus community that can do far more than Toyota or Lotus can do. It shouldn't be a concern really.

I'm talking about having servicing performed at a toyota dealer for convenience factor, not modifications

Personally, you'd be better off taking it to Soulspeed unless it was a warranty issue, in which case the Toyota dealer wouldn't be of service anyway.

As far as diagnostics, you can get most any of that you need via the OBDII port - just buy or borrow an OBDII reader, ScangaugeII, etc.

I just ran into my friend who works at GrandImports.net and handles their Toyota/Lexus work and said it would be no problem working on one. They are super close to me too

I want a Lotus, but at the moment, the CR is fine for me. I'm thinking about buying a Lotus Elise as my next car, though.
Congrats on the purchase of an Elise, OP.
