My RX8 obsession lol - on my 6th one... :D

I've always liked the RX-8 and the refreshed models look great. Before purchasing my S, the RX-8 and 350Z were my other options. The shifter/clutch action in the Z made me run. The gas mileage and potential issues made me dismiss the RX-8 as well. It was a very fun car to drive though and had me grinning the entire test drive.

I'd take an RX8 with a better motor dropped in. A V6 or turbo 4.
Say... I wonder if a Honda J32/J35 V6 engine (from Accord/TL) or Evo 4G63 would fit in an RX8 and be able to swap in cheaply...
Love the RX8 design, hate the motor.
Edit: omg RX8 with 4G63... YUM : http://www.norotors.com/index.php?topic=12712.0

I know that the rotary is part of the RX history but if they would have used the mazda speed 3 engine it would have been so much better. More HP, more TQ, better MPG, more reliable, and more desirable. It would have been one of the faster cars in its area and with a stock turbo it would be easy to get a little more power out of it.
I would have passed up the S2000 for a turbo 4 RX-8. To me the worst part of the S2000 is that it is a convertible and you can't get power from mods. I know the convertible factor is a big seller for most but for me it is undesirable, but the rest of the car makes up for it.
Is their something I'm missing? A reason they didn't chose a turbo 4 over the rotary, besides "heritage"?

I HIGHLY doubt the engine is "reliable". yeah right and you gotta top off oil every two fillups. Like it's a THING you have to do with the rotary engine as it burns oil as a natural process of combustion. All that is fine, oil ain't expensive but I have never seen an rx8 engine go past 120k miles stock and if it does, it's on it's way out. I was in the market for one because it was much more in my budget when I was shopping between the rx8 and the s2k. SOO many of them had replaced engines and mileage less than 100k at that. No thanks..
If the engine was reliable, I wouldn't have hesitated to buy it. I personally love how it looks and in some ways it looks better than the S2k. it has rear seats, handles quite good and the interior is really nice. But what's the point when the engine keeps going out? And it's not like it's a 4.6 Ford where you can pick one up at any junkyard all over the nation for $150 and drop it in on a weekend. Rotary is rare and it's going to get rarer.
My AP1 burns zero oil btw.
