Default My dad needs a new car...

Yep, another one of these treads.. my dad needs a midsize SUV.. something with good:

MPG
Nice interior (leather / sunroof is a huge +)
Some room in the back (Light housework, pool supplies (he owns a pool business))

He wants to spend 12-15k

Here is what i have in mind:

Mazda CX-7 (seems to be the best bang for $?)
Honda CR-V (nice, but they get too expensive IMO.. ESP with leather)
Ford EDGE (cant find one under 16k with reasonable miles...)

So i need your help.. what cars am i missing here? I would even say a A3... but they are abit expensive.

We had a CR-V for about 5 years (the longest we've ever owned a single car) 'ed it, great car very reliable, great in the winter but less than exciting performance.

Does it have to be an SUV? If not then the Legacy or Impreza Wagons might be appealing. They get better MPG, have comparable space and interior features.

i'm not an accountant nor tax expert but... why doesn't he just lease a new vehicle and write off all related expenses? there are some mighty good lease deals right now. just a thought/suggestion.

Hes had his last car for about 10 years.. he likes to keep them till the wheels fall off.

that's awesome... but he can still lease, take advantage of the write-offs and then purchase the car at the end of the lease. again, no tax expert here!!

You can write expenses for a financed/purchased car. Leasing isn't a requirement.

You might be able to get a Ford Freestyle for that kind of money. It's bigger than the CRV so the mileage won't be as good but it's also bigger

Does he *need* an SUV (highly doubtful)?

Encourage him to get something less massive and draggy if he wants mpg.
