Default My aunt needs a DD. Suggestions please?

My aunt's car was totalled out. She is in her 60's and is looking to spend no more than $14-$15K. She doesn't care about amenities, just reliability, low cost of ownership and good gas mileage.

She has had a couple nissan sedans, and a hundai. All of which she was fine with. She just needs to get from point A to point B.

Used is preferred, but no more than 3 years old and preferably less than 30,000mi.

Any suggestions?

Unless she has something against them, any major brand econo-hatch should fit the bill. Focus, yaris, aveo, civic, ect. Anything built this side of y2k should outlast her if she takes care of it.

+1 Any 2005 or later econobox will work just fine. 15 grand would also get you a nice, used midsize car (camry, accord, etc).

Check some Life Tables. My guess is she's on the road longer than most cars built in 2001.

Toyota Corolla

You can find a nice low mileage CPO in the 14-15k range.

I would prefer something like a Fusion over the econo cars.

Does Ford still make expensive parts if repair needed? I still remember 90s cars where CATS cost like $800 for replacement parts on a Taurus.

IMO, I rather stay with Honda/Toyota for his aunt, so she would not have to spend as much to maintain.

The history of the Fusion suggests it won't be an expensive car to own. You $800 cat sounds about standard for manifold integrated cats. My CA emissions 91 Camry cat cost $900 + labor to replace. The car was 8 years old at the time.
