Well I just got to drive a dream car today. My co-workers blue 911 twin turbo (02) 6-speed MT. He had 18K miles. I thought he was going to come out with me to make sure I didn

you need to drive a GT2

Absolute night and day difference. From reading all your previous posts about what you like in cars you will completely fall love within a mile. At their current selling prices (~135k used) they are an even better value than the Z06 which as we all know is the value king.

I agree with steve c. Coming from the S2000 it took a good month to really get used to and appreciate the Turbo. My main complaint (the imprecise and excessively long throw shifter) was easily remedied when I installed the B&M short shift kit. For me the seats in the Turbo are much more comfortable and supportive than in the S. I agree the stock exhaust on the Turbo is pretty bland but there are a lot of quality aftermarket choices to liven it up. I haven't decided which to go with yet. I also agree that the S has a more sporty feel on the road because its limits are easier to approach on the street, it's light and tossable. To approach the Turbo's limits on the street is scary fast. Crazy in other words. I really enjoy both cars and feel the S is a great bargain while the Turbo is a bit overpriced. My brain has finally adapted to the changes needed to move between the two cars and I'm having an equal amount of fun with both!

I'm just not sure it's worth the exorbitant price(even used).

In the same way the M3 can do a lot of the things a 911 can for $20K less (and the M3 isn't cheap BTW). Or the Z06 can keep up with the Turbo for a little more than 1/3 the price. I was expecting more from the most expensive cars I've ever driven. To me it was just like a fast M3. But and this is a big but, I did not push it hard except in a straight line.

Do you think a new/used turbo say $90K is worth twice the price of a Z06($45K)?

For me, yes. Different folks will have different priorities. Both are excellent vehicles I just happen to prefer the 996 Turbo at this point.

The approach is inherently different for the two cars. The M3 is a bit more compromised from a design standpoint (using an existing 3 series chassis) and a bit softer. Both are excellent cars, but I feel Porsche has done a better job with the suspension setup than BMW.
