IMO 350z shifter is ok, but not S league. Now, the RX-8 Shifter was ALMOST as good as my 99 Civic SI shifter, about same throw but was much more rubbury feeling, for what that car is suppose to be, the shifter was terrible. Might be different when car is moving but I doubt it Ours IMO is the best I have felt.

Never driven a Miata, they seem to be excellent cars though

how do u like the shift feel in a Miata?
The throws in the miata are great too. I have a 99 5speed that is sort of a project car (project to get it running-alternator/wiring problems right now). The shifting on a miata is very short. However it isnt as buttery smooth as the s2ks. If someone has driven both for a lot of miles (100k+ miata/60k s2k) you sort of know what I am talking about. When I shift its so effortlessly smooth in the s2k. Both the s2k and miata blow my old 98 gsr's shifter out of the the water...

to remind myself how good i had it.....I drove my friend's 00' civic with a cable linkage and I kept going from a gear to neutral. I would not go through the entire 2-3 transistion. once i got adjusted to that, I then drive my car and I kept going from 2nd gear to fifth.

I thought the civics from the last generation before the recent redesign did not have a cable linkage, but the 'direct' conection w/something solid? I could very well be wrong, but im about 99% positative that my 99SI did not have cable, you could feel the engine idle in the stick, which if it was cable driven you don't get that kind of feedback. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
THanks

Jojipoji, if he told you that they only had a track model in blue and orange, that cannot be correct as the track model does not come with leather and there is only black is offered for cloth interiors. Another error by the salesman in a long line of errors it seems. However, I do agree that the 350z transmission seemed to be pretty good actually. I would say that it is better than my ITR transmission, on which the throws are too long.

V8NV-mys2k, you are correct. The 96-00 Civic did have rods, not cables, for the transmission linkages. The cables were introduced for the 01 Civic as well as the RSX's. Along with the loss of double wishbones at the front, this was a slap in the face to enthusiasts, but the RSX type S is still a damn fine machine.

Since we are comparing shifters, I have found that Porsche's shifters are awful. The 350Z was very short, but not quite as smooth as my S2K. It definately felt better than most everything else. That was what I liked the most about the car. I like the M Coupe and M Roadster's shifter but didnt love them as they both were a little long. In all, I am happy to say the S2K has an awesome short feel and I am amazed that Porsches have such awful shifters (so so long and rubbery)....I still would buy a 993 or 996 though and get a short shifter. The torque on the 350Z and M Coupe were great but the 350Z's engine was a little dull. If I wanted the same torque feeling as the 350Z, but with the more driver's feel of the S2K, I would get an M Coupe because I've found crazy good deals on them. They are 3000lb that aren't much more than a 350 (little used of course), same torquey feel, but sharper like the S2K. The 350Z is an excellent car, it's not for me though. -Anthony

I love my S2000 but a huge "CHEERS" to any car manufacturer like Nissan or any other who choose to produce cars for car enthusiasts. Whether M3 e46, STI, EVO, RX8 or even the venerable Boxster...the more the better.
