Toyota supports Subaru? How long has this been going on? Just curious.
Toyota does not support Subaru. It own 8% stock in Fuji Heavy Industries, Subaru's parent, and is providing guidance to help Subaru grow its US market share (commercials anyone?), but its not like Toyota, or GM before it, is keeping Subaru afloat. Toyota is also utilizing Subaru's US plants to build Camrys. Toyota is in real need for more capacity as American love to buy Camrys.

If there's any synergy, it will probably be hybrid engines for Subaru. Subaru is a small company, like Porsche in a sense, and can benefit from a partnership with Toyota, but it still has its unique boxer engines and an awd system considered to be the best in the world.

They liked it a lot more than edmunds did, who called it "soft." Shit writing too, I hope that is just the web site and not reflective of the magazine because I get enough internet on the internet, I don't need quotes from forum idiots on top of that.

I was being sarcastic there son..

Back on topic, Subaru needs to figure out an identity and stick with it on the Impreza models. It was a miss with the bugeyed (Dodge Neon style) version, then they kinda got it right with the facelift that was given a year later, then they decided to screw things up again with the Alpha front end a couple years after that! They should just find a good design and stick with it, like the Legacy which I like, even if it is a bit on the conservative side. IT hasn't needed the redesigns and facelifts every year or every other year like the Impreza. It can't be cheap for Subaru to retool for all these facelifts and changes they make so often.

I wouldn't call that the "Tom Cruise" of sport compacts just yet. The new Lancer is not that "Imprezive" to me in the looks department. The IX was hot though.

It's not that impressive to me either, but just comparing to the Impreza, it does look much better. Then again, I guess any car looks better than the Kia Impreza..

Oh yea, and we DO have the Impreza as a press car here at Edmunds. It is the hatch version and unfortunately, it is even worse in person! All the materials seem to be cheaper than the outgoing model and it's just plain boring and generic at almost any angle! I was very disappointed with Subaru. On the fit and finish, it made the Mazdaspeed3 seem like it was more upscale! I don't think VW, Mazda, Volvo have anything to worry about with their respective equivalents.
