if MS3 owners didn't care about low/midrange torque they would have bought a Honda. Not everyone wants an 8000+RPM screamer as their daily driver. So they could have made the head breathe better and put a bigger turbo on it, kill the drivability of the car and made it produce that kind of torque to 6500RPM then it would be even more expensive, not a lot of usable torque in the lower rev range and we would have a 350 horsepower FWD hatch.
There's no point for 280 ft-lbs in a FWD chassis anyway, so I'd rather have a more linear power curve and keep it fun to drive up top. You could still have PLENTY of torque down low without having it run out of breath 1500 RPM before its redline. Not sure what Mazda was thinking there.

I never mentioned 8 grand, I said at least 7. Which plenty of other sport compact turbo cars are able to do. I stand by by impression that the car is no fun when you have to short shift to make power.

Then you can buy a Civic Si and the people who prefer the MS3 can get that. Variety is great because it gives people with a different opinion another option. It would be pretty boring if every car was the same.

this might be my next car, although they have been seeing issues on the MS3 forum of having the motors/turbos blow when removing the cats

i got that info not from a forum but a mazda tech that works at a dealership. he says almost every MS3 that comes in that had the cat off have the same issues, either motor issues or the turbo gets blown.
