whats the LOL about? you are not supposed to take this car past 6000 RPM if you want the best time. that would be like me asking an S owner what does it feel like if you mis-shift and go into 5th instead of 3rd and you are @ 2500RPM.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen someone so touchy about their car.. Why not just put the redline at 6krpm then? Seems stupid to have a 7200rpm redline car that can realistically only rev to 6000 before it completely chokes..
And yah, the Mazdaspeed3 has a narrow power band. The GTI makes more torque down low and again up top than the MS3, despite having a much lower peak torque figure. That said, it's not exactly hard to keep it around 3-5.5k.

... because the engines perfectly capable of spinning at 7,200 RPM? Why not?

im sorry I was defensive.
btw in that dyno it was still making like 175 lb/ft of torque @6,000RPM, not nearly as much as its peak but still accelerating hard in lower gears, again Malloric made his point quite clear, its more for track/autocross purposes that the rev limit be set much higher because sometimes you need to only accelerate a couple extra mph before braking, you are not gonna shift into the next gear just to be in your sweet spot for .0001 seconds.

Em, no it's not. Look at the dyno, that motor is making almost ZERO torque by 6500rpm..
And you need to learn how to read a graph. Projecting out it looks like it'd still be making more torque at 6,500 than the S2000 does.

only thing i have is the cobb sri and inlet
i dont have the $ to try diff intakes tho haha
and i only have those things because they are
carb approved. noticed a huge diff between stock
and intake only. i have yet to test drive the new one
but i could care less as it's the same motor with revised
gear ratios.

that dyno graph starts @ 125lb/ft of torque, and I have seen dynos on stock MS3's ran to fuel cut they make atleast that much all the way to redline. not saying its a lot, but come on..25lb/ft? Again in the lower gears its still enough to pull relatively hard.
to the OP: Have you ever tried launching it before? I am not a big fan of drag racing but I have found that once you get a couple bolt ons the car seems to turn out slightly faster and more consistent times just launching in 2nd gear
