I think the new Civic looks great -- and allows folks to go cheap with a stripper or add options and get a nice vehicle with nice features -- still for a good price.

GO CIVIC!

The SI traps at 95 mph in the 1/4 mi and achieves 68+ mph in slalom! That's pretty darn good, especially the latter (that's sports cars' territory).

Hahahaha...1993 car of the year was the Ford Probe GT.

Man, what were the editors smoking that year?

Dude, I remember lusting after a Probe GT, especially after the test drive. That V6 sounded SWEET back in the day.

Keep in mind though, that until fairly recently (maybe 01 or 02?) they had a separate award for American and Foreign COTY. So, say, the '90 Towncar only had to beat out all the other '80s American pieces of shit, not, say, the new Lexus LS400 or Infiniti Q45, which I think both debuted that year.

I had a 95 Probe GT ten years ago. *shrug* I enjoyed it and even when I upgraded (significantly) wished I had opted to keep it with the other car. You judge cars by what's available at the time (for the money). The integra GSR was better though for a little more money (and I think it came out in '94), but hey if you wanted everyday torque the Probe GT was cool.

If i recall, it won H stock at least once in SCCA SoloII competition

It's ahead of it's time.

GM needs a home-run like this.

I like the fact that Motor Trend takes value as a very important factor in determining the winner. Among all those contenders, I also think Civic deserves the award the most. Although I like MX-5 and IS a bit more. If the new 3-series isn't that expensive, it probably could have beaten the new Civic.
