I can't think of anything past the low 30k range.

A8 is only available in AWD.

The STS... MSRP is about $53k. Acura RL at a bit over $45k is the only other car that's close.

First year in the US (I think 1997), you could get the A8 with a 3.7L V8 and FWD. Don't remember how much it cost though.

How much was the Lotus Elan - it was a front-driver?

The winner would be the Cadillac STS as previously mentioned. It can get into the low to mid $50k range with every option box checked.
